NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The National Service Scheme (NSS), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India, has been fostering the spirit of voluntary service among college and university students since its establishment on September 24, 1969. Guided by the motto "Not Me But You," NSS instils democratic values and a sense of selfless service, aiming to cultivate cooperation, patriotism, discipline, and social responsibility among the youth. It provides students with opportunities to participate in community service activities, camps, and educational sessions, nurturing skills such as leadership, teamwork, empathy, and problem solving. The Konark wheel in the NSS badge represents the readiness for 24/7 service to the nation, while the colours red and blue symbolize energy, spirit, and the universal contribution toward humanity's welfare. NSS's main objectives include fostering community understanding, self-awareness, problem identification, civic responsibility, practical problem-solving, group living, leadership development, emergency response, and national integration.
